On Friday, November 13, 2015, at 11:30 a.m., the Lady Flames
will take on Appalachian State University. This much-anticipated day is
especially significant for me because it marks my ‘last first’ game of my
college career.
Over the last 5 years there have been times when I’ve honestly
thought that basketball would never end. But now, as my “last-firsts” begin, I can’t
help but feel nostalgic over my time here at Liberty. There have been far too
many blessings, heart-aches, lessons, and laughs to count, and I wouldn’t
change a single thing that the Lord has allowed me to experience.
So while the
rest of this post could be super thoughtful and meaningful, what’s the fun in
that!?!?! Instead, I want to focus on the future of this program and the exciting
new faces that have joined our team this year!
Brooke Alexander, or as I like to call her Brookie, is from
the great state of Texas. Like all Texans, she takes great pride in that!
Brooke is extremely outgoing and loves to make new friends. She and I have a similar
sense of humor and often end up being the only two laughing at dumb jokes that
no one else thinks are funny (well, beside Mickayla of course). A couple
interesting facts about Brooke are that she wants to be a missionary, she has
something in common with everyone she meets,
and she loves Bethany Hamilton.
KK Barbour’s hometown is right down the road in Charlottesville,
Virginia. She is studying Sports Psychology...which will probably come in handy towards
the end of our long season when we all are in need of counseling...just kidding,
but really. Some interesting facts about KK are that her favorite color is purple,
she enjoys fishing and hunting, and she loves dogs! On top of all of this, the
whole team wishes they could have her awesome hair!!
Molly Reagan traveled all the way from Massachusetts to join
our Liberty family. Molly is known for asking lots of questions and catching
people off guard with her witty, sarcastic remarks. Molly is majoring in
criminal justice, making her my fourth teammate to have this major. Some
interesting facts about Molly are that her actual name is Mary, she is allergic
to peanuts (meaning she cannot eat at Chick-fil-a...let’s all stop and have a
moment of silence for her...), and she likes to listen to French music.
Steph Patton is from...well, it depends on the day. It gets
confusing because she lives in Georgia but went to school in North Carolina (or
something like that). Steph plans to major in sports management. I think
everyone on our team would vote Steph as our most fashionable teammate. Some
interesting facts about Steph are that she loves chicken, she enjoys shopping in
her free time, and she is an awesome golfer.
Kaitlyn Stovall...I immediately liked her because she has my
name (although her spelling is a little off!).
The same name thing can become complicated on the basketball court, though, so
much to her dismay she has been dubbed ‘Stovall’ and occasionally ‘John Greene.’
Kaitlyn decided earlier this week that she wants to major in American Sign
Language, making her the first in Lady Flames history to take on this feat. Some
interesting facts about Kaitlyn are that Smarties are her favorite candy, she
would eat at McDonald’s all day if she could (and not gain a pound), and she
has personally moved a basketball court...multiple times actually...you’ll have to
ask her about that one...
Jordan Woods is from New Jersey, in an area not far from
Catherine Kearney’s hometown. Catherine and Jordan actually worked out at the
same facility back home when they were in high school. Before she came to
Liberty, Jordan attended Davidson and then a community college in New Jersey.
She is majoring in criminal justice. A few interesting facts about Jordan are
that her boyfriend is from the Dominican Republic, she can speak Spanish, and one
day hopes to be an FBI agent.
Tatyana Crowder is another Virginia native. She plans to
major in youth ministry, which I think will be perfect for her because she is
always energetic and loves working with kids. Tatyana’s outgoing personality
is contagious and she adds a lot of fun to our team. If you every get the
chance to talk to Tatyana, ask her about the time we played Minute-to-Win-It at
Coach Green’s house. Let’s just say she took quite the spill. Tatyana likes to
play the guitar, read, and nap. If you see the team at a LU football game, you
can guarantee that Tatyana is cheering the loudest!
These girls are awesome additions to our team! I can’t wait
to see them play this year!!!!
