Samegirl Blogs

Hi there Liberty family!

Okay, so this blog is going to be a little bit different than the rest. Today you are hearing from TWO players, and not just one. The lovely Minnesotan, Katelyn Adams, and her charming sidekick, Ellee Rollins.

To everyone who knows us, it is only logical that we write our blog together, seeing as we do just about everything else together as well. We room together, eat every meal together, have the same major, attend all the same classes, share a twitter account, hang out with the same friends, have the same taste in music, and have both visited each other’s houses during vacation time. It’s safe to say that we have earned the title of ‘Samegirl’ that our teammates have lovingly dubbed us. Since we are literally always together, it is just easier for them to call us by one name I guess…

So as we sit in our hotel room with our two teammates Ashley and Emily S., we thought it would be fun if we did a Q & A session for our joint blog instead of just writing. They asked the following questions to us and our answers are recorded below.

What is your favorite snack in the dorm?
Katelyn: At this moment in time, vanilla light&fit Greek yogurt and nut and raisin granola.
Ellee: Energy balls…a Pinterest recipe that we have been making…delicious

What do you love most about being a Liberty Flame?
Katelyn: My teammates!!
Ellee: The food…just kidding I really love how we have as our goal to play for God’s glory!

What’s your biggest fear?
Katelyn: Drowning or burning?...and ladybugs
Ellee: Starving…actually being stranded in the ocean at night

Who is someone you look up to in life?
Katelyn: Reagan Nicole Miller! (I got you Rea ;)) haha
Ellee: literally?...Katelyn. But seriously?...my mom and dad for their awesome example and love

If you could be professional in any sport besides basketball what would it be?
Katelyn: Gymnastics, hands down…because they are the epitome of athleticism
Ellee: Speed walking, curling, or archery….just for a shot at the Olympics

What is your favorite Bible verse?
Katelyn: Romans 8:37-38 “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Ellee: Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your path straight.”

“If you want to know more, come meet us” –Katelyn

Till next time! Love, Katelyn and Ellee

Simone's Movie Blog

I'm a new face on the squad this year, so for those of you who don’t know me, my name is Jacquelyn Simone Brown. I go by Simone, though. But that's not important right now.

What is important is that I like to watch movies. I watch a ton of movies…lately, most of my movie watching has taken place on my computer in my dorm, because with basketball, I just don’t have a lot of free time to go to the theatre!

Here is a rundown of four of my favorite movies. You’ll see that I like a lot of different genres!

  • Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon – Also known as the third Transformers movie, this one is by far my favorite of the Transformers films. There’s just no way to explain Transformers unless you have seen the movies, and they just keep getting better. For instance, in the first movie the robots are all made of metal. In the third movie, they have fluids inside of them—guts, blood, and spit!
  • The Boy in the Striped Pajamas – For those of you who haven’t seen this movie, it is about the Holocaust. I’m not really into history, but certain events like the Holocaust are very interesting to me. The Holocaust was a real event that changed the world, and to be able to learn about it and catch a glimpse into what life was like during that time makes this movie really interesting.
  • The Croods – This kids movie just makes me laugh and makes my day every time I watch it. It’s so funny, because the Croods have no idea what life is like outside of their cave or how to relate to other people.
  • Burlesque – I really like movies that have a lot of singing and dancing, such as Burlesque and Moulin Rouge, and I have come to realize that Christina Aguilera is one of the greatest singers alive.

Speaking of singing and performing arts, when we were in New York City over Thanksgiving, Coach Green took the team to see Wicked.  It was absolutely amazing! The level of talent of the performers was incredible. I have already begged my parents to take me again when I go home during the summer.

As a side note, I am a pretty good singer as well…but I only like to sing privately. Earlier this year, I was singing in the shower and a teammate (who shall remain nameless), was recording me from outside of the bathroom. When I finally got out of the shower, she had a full seven minute video! Not only that, but when I walked out of the shower in my towel, she had the camera right in my face and exclaimed, “Here is our guest singer!” At that point, I was on the floor screaming, “Get out! Get out!” and she filmed that as well…and then showed most of my teammates the video. Don’t worry…I am still working on a prank to get back at her.

Go Flames!

Little "One"

Any one that follows Women’s Basketball knows about the incredible Big Three.  They are our powerhouse post players that range from 6’4-6’6. The Big Three consist of Katelyn Adams, Ashley Rininger, and Catherine Kearney. Together these ladies are amazing, and off the court they have infectious personalities.

Cat or CK is always smiling and always ready for anything Christmas related. She loves loves Christmas and her love for the holidays always puts others in good spirits. Kate is so funny to me; if I am ever down I know that I can go to Kate and she will make me laugh. And last but not least, Ash is just so nice and fun to be around.

Coming in as a small post player, I was so scared of them. I just knew that they would be monsters in practice and in post workouts. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Although they do dominate the inside and work hard in practice, the Big Three are so sweet and helpful.

When we have positional workouts and it’s my day to work with the post, it is always so hard being the smallest one of them. Making light of the situation we all decided that we should name me “Little One”. They treat me like I am their little sister and are always finding ways to help me. They will easily block my shot into next week and turn around and tell me what I did wrong and how to make it better.

I love working out with the Big Three and I love watching them play. I’m so glad they made me their little one!

Go Flames!
